Inaccurate Netflix Maturity Ratings

Hey all! Netflix, the entertainment giant that revolutionised the way people consume television and film, has become a household name across the globe, including in Malaysia. At first, I thought I just want to share this as a status on my Facebook. But knowing that most of my friends (with children) have turned to Netflix as a means to spend time together, it’s wiser for me to write an article.

To those who are still unfamiliar with Netflix, you can read about it here. Of course, Netflix is fun. You get to see all the nice movies and series at any time, repetitively, without ads (not like AS***..LOL). But how do you even control what you and your children watch? Parental control setting? Nah, would you still believe the settings when the maturity ratings were already proven not accurate?

The Guide on Maturity Ratings They Provided (Read here)

ALL – Recommended for all audiences
7+ Recommended for ages 7 and up
3+ Recommended for ages 13 and up
16+ Recommended for ages 16 and up
18+ Recommended for ages 18 and up

They also mentioned that we can find details about the content of the title that determined the rating (sex, nudity, violence, etc).

The Actual Content

I’ve found so many movies with inaccurate maturity ratings. But take note that I’m not going to share the titles because you’ll be encouraged to find those movies. LOL. A movie rated 18+ (violence+language) had sex scenes and fully naked women from the beginning till the end of the movie. A teenage movie rated 16+ (language) was sexually suggestive and had fully naked teenagers running around. A kids’ movie rated 13+ was sexually suggestive and had scenes indicating the main character was having gay orgies. WTF, Netflix? Could it be possible that there are other movies that were rated ALL / 7+ inaccurately as well?

I bet most people already knew that Netflix is trying to desensitise everybody, especially our younger generations about sex outside of wedlock and homosexuality. The government is already unable to regulate online streaming platforms. They can’t even control indecent content made by the citizens on Facebook, TikTok, etc. How the hell they, and even you as the parents can control what your children are watching? I don’t know. Can anyone please try to solve this?

Thanks for reading.
